The Lanna Kingdom
The Lanna Kingdom derives its name from the Thai words Lan Na, translating to "the land of a million rice fields". Lanna was a monarchy state from the 13th to the 18th century that spanned from northern Thailand to parts of modern day Myanmar. Major city states in the Kingdom included, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang and Chiang Mai, the capital. Compared to the surrounding areas of Thailand, the Lanna Kingdom is situated in a particularly mountainous region, which lead to the development of a unique and rich culture with its own language, fashion, music, art and history.
